Help with meeting audio

Transcribe online meetings

Use SlideNote to transcribe meeting audio from tools such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet. Keep SlideNote open in a supported desktop browser while you attend the meeting.

  1. Open your slides in SlideNote.
  2. Use the audio-source control beside Start Transcribing to choose an audio source.
  3. Select Meeting audio + microphone to include both the meeting and your own voice, or Meeting / device audio to capture meeting playback only.
  4. Click Start Transcribing, choose what to share, and enable the audio-sharing switch before clicking Share.
  5. If you include your microphone, allow microphone access when prompted.

Use headphones to reduce echo and duplicate pickup. To change audio sources, stop transcription first, choose a new source, and start again.

Browser support

Meeting audio support by browser and computer
BrowserBrowser meetingsInstalled meeting apps
Chrome on MacShare the meeting tab with audio. Confirmed working in our Mac test.On macOS 14.2 or newer, use Entire screen with system audio enabled. Confirmed with Zoom on the tested Mac.
Chrome on WindowsShare the meeting tab with audio.Share Entire screen with system audio enabled. This setup still needs our device testing.
Microsoft EdgeUse the meeting's Edge tab and enable tab audio when offered.Use Entire screen if the picker offers system audio. Availability varies by operating system and browser version. Not yet verified in our testing.
Safari / FirefoxMeeting audio is not supported by our current capture method.Meeting audio is not supported by our current capture method.

Use an up-to-date desktop Chrome browser for the simplest setup. Older Macs may still share browser-tab audio, but the installed-app setup above requires macOS 14.2 or newer. Linux, mobile browsers, and other configurations have not been verified.

Microphone-only transcription is separate from meeting-audio support. Safari users can still choose Microphone and allow microphone access.

When the meeting is in a browser tab

  1. Open the meeting and SlideNote in separate tabs of the same browser.
  2. Choose a meeting-audio source in SlideNote, then click Start Transcribing.
  3. In the sharing picker, choose the meeting tab, not the SlideNote tab.
  4. Enable Share tab audio or Also share tab audio, then click Share.

If your own voice should be included, choose Meeting audio + microphone. Sharing a meeting tab alone does not reliably include your microphone.

When the meeting is in the Zoom or Teams app

  1. Keep the meeting app open and select a meeting-audio source in SlideNote.
  2. Click Start Transcribing and select Entire screen in the sharing picker.
  3. Select a screen and enable Share system audio, Share audio, or the equivalent audio switch, then click Share.

On Mac, use Chrome and allow its screen and system-audio recording access if prompted. You can review access under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording. Allow access for the browser running SlideNote; permission for Zoom or Teams alone is not enough. Relaunch the browser if macOS requests it.

Our Mac test captured installed Zoom successfully using Entire screen with audio enabled. Selecting only the Zoom window did not return audio in that test. If window sharing fails, use Entire screen.

System audio can include other applications and notifications. Pause unrelated playback while transcribing. The sharing picker is opened by SlideNote; you do not need to present your screen to other meeting participants.

If meeting audio was not shared

This message means the browser returned a sharing source without an audio track. Sharing a screen or window alone is not enough.

  • Check that the audio-sharing switch is on before you click Share.
  • For an installed app, try Entire screen instead of Window.
  • For a browser meeting, select its tab in the same browser as SlideNote.
  • On Mac, check the browser's screen and system-audio recording permission.
  • If the picker offers no audio option, try current Chrome or use the meeting's browser version and share its tab audio.

Keep sharing active throughout transcription. Stopping the browser's sharing session also ends audio capture.

The browser requires a screen or tab selection to share audio. SlideNote sends only audio to the transcription service; it does not upload or save video of your shared screen.

Still stuck? Contact us with your browser and macOS or Windows version, whether the meeting uses a tab or an installed app, and which sharing option you selected.
